A Monto woman is calling for help in locating her dog after the beloved pup went missing in the Mingela area near Charters Towers.

Kalyca Hendren’s cattle bull-arab cross Thea has been lost since Friday morning, after a lock on her dog cage gave way, setting the dog free while Ms Hendren was driving through the area.

Ms Hendren said she estimates Thea fell out around 10 km towards Charters Towers after the rest stop at Mingela.

“I saw that my little deaf girl wasn’t in the car, so I was non stop driving up and down the road trying to find her,” Ms Hendren said.

“That wasn’t successful, so I stayed the night at Charters Towers and did a few more night runs just to see if I could see anything during the night.”

Unfortunately, the repeated searches proved unsuccessful, and Ms Hendren was forced to go home empty-handed, and facing a nervous wait through the holiday period as she hopes for answers.

Ms Hendren said she hopes Thea will be reunited with her other dogs, Oakley and Bucket, before Christmas.

“I’m hoping for a Christmas miracle and Santa lets her come home safe for Christmas,” Ms Hendren said.

“If someone does see her and they are willing to stop, she does come to hand signals, but because she’s scared the best bet would be to crouch down and let her approach you.”

Due to prior commitments, Ms Hendren has since returned home and is unable to continue the search herself, but has notified local animal care and rescue centres in the hopes that someone will be able to connect the two if they find Thea.

Anyone with information about Thea’s whereabouts is urged to contact Townsville Animal Care and Adoption Centre at 0457 769 362 or RSPCA at 1300 363 736.
