Indian chef opens ‘multi-cuisine’ restaurant in downtown Kirwan
The cuisine of the world, influenced by a healthy dose of South Indian tradition, has come to Kirwan with the opening of a restaurant by Indian-trained chef Sunil Prasad.

THE cuisine of the world, influenced by a healthy dose of south Indian tradition, has come to Kirwan with the opening of a restaurant by Indian-trained chef Sunil Prasad.
Traditions by Townsville Dosa operates from premises in 117 Bamford Lane.
Its menu lists Indian-style curries, tikkas and dosas alongside Aussie favourites like chicken parmi, lamb burgers and tropical reef and beef.
At lunch time, they also serve fish and chips.
Mr Prasad described his restaurant as “fusion” and “multi-cuisine”.
His motto is “healthy south Indian tradition meets the world”.
“When I say that, all the meals we have are fresh. We only use accredited suppliers. We only use first quality products. I’m very conscious of the health of my customers. I do authentic. I don’t do any shortcuts,” Mr Prasad said.
Mr Prasad trained in India’s Food Craft Institute Kalamassery and has worked in some of the best restaurants and hotels around the world.
He has also worked on cruise ships out of Miami in the US.
Mr Prasad moved to Townsville from Melbourne about five years ago because his family needed a warm climate.
After working for a local club he opened a dosa outlet with a partner in the food court of the Stockland shopping centre last year before embarking on his own dining venture.
“I always planned to open the big one,” Mr Prasad said.
He said they would start deliveries through Menulog next week and would open an al fresco dining area alongside the indoor restaurant in the near future.
“It’s good, every day the customers are coming in. All are repeat customers and it’s growing,” Mr Prasad said.
Colliers Townsville agent Shaun McLaren, who negotiated the lease for Mr Prasad and is also a big fan of his menu offerings, said it was good to see someone having a crack in small business and having the confidence to go into the restaurant trade.
“Sunil is probably an example of where we are seeing greater interest in leasing and sales and a lot more confidence in the market,” Mr McLaren said.
He said Mr Prasad had chosen a great location with good exposure to Bamford Lane and near one of the best performing Red Rooster outlets in Queensland.
