A resort, bar, and restaurant with spectacular views of Hinchinbrook Island is giving away a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle to extend its reach in the North Queensland tourism industry.
Paul McLennan, owner of Lucinda Cove Resort and popular Slipway Bar and Restaurant, said the $40,000 prize was aimed at attracting members of the biker community from the Burdekin, Townsville, Charters Towers, and Cairns to the desirable Dungeness destination.
He said an overnight stay in the ocean-fronting motel rooms or recently renovated, self-contained bungalows equated to two entries in the draw, with each spend of $40 also earning a ticket.
Mr McLennan said the winning ticket would be drawn during a show-and-shine event, raffles, auctions, and concert at the resort on Saturday, December 20.
In addition to the giveaway, he said the resort was also offering bikers the opportunity to have their photos taken and posted on a wall of the restaurant, with the establishment donating $2 for each photo to the Starlight Children’s Foundation for sick kids.
Mr McLennan said he had already purchased the Harley, which he said would make someone very happy just before Christmas later this year.
Daughter April said her father was a “motorbike fanatic” who owned his own Harley and wanted to encourage others to share in the beauty of the area and wonderful bike-riding opportunities.
“We’re hidden here, not many people know about it so we’re just trying to invite as many people as possible to come out and see it,” she said.
Mr McLennan, a lifetime rider who has travelled Australia, said the bike riding in Hinchinbrook was first class.
“It’s superb, especially in winter, you can’t go riding anywhere in winter except here,” he said.
The family also encouraged local riders and punters to get involved and enter the draw.
The resort motel’s units and bungalows, that sleep between three and five guests, are a stone’s throw from the private pool and Dungeness boat ramp that provides access to the Enterprise and Hinchinbrook channels, Hinchinbrook Island and the Thorsborne Trail, the Palm Island Group, the Great Barrier Reef and world-class fishing.
