The cause of a grass fire that burnt late into the night near a school on Sunday is unknown after Queensland fire services had to put the blaze out twice after it reignited.
Aitkenvale was covered in a layer of smoke Sunday night after a grassy area near Aitkenvale State School caught fire.
A spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire Department said a crew attended and contained the fire at 6:50pm, before another crew had to return later at 8:20pm after it re-sparked.
“On arrival, they said it was an area of fire of approximately 150 metres of grass on the corner of Charles and Nathan Street,” she said.
“When (the first crew) headed off they said it was just lightly smouldering but with no flames.”
The spokeswoman said they returned when the fire came within proximity to a fence.
“It was extinguished by 9:50pm,” she said.
The fire burnt a total area of 200 metres by 150 metres.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
