A lawyer who defends criminals for a living has announced that he is contesting the electorate of Herbert on an anti-crime platform that includes tougher court sentences such as sending youth offenders to remote vocation camps.
On Friday, Katter’s Australian Party confrimed Darryn Casson, a senior associate at respected Townsville-based law firm Salt Legal, was running on the the party’s ticket.
Leader Robbie Katter told the Bulletin Mr Casson, an experienced former police officer and law and order professional, was a staunch believer in KAP’s key crime policies, including Castle Law and Send ‘em Bush, and had “the real experience to know that these will make a difference”.
“We know that Townsville, and much of North Queensland continues to be smashed by out-of-control crime, and Herbert voters deserve a representative who has lived and breathed crime in North Queensland for decades.”
Mr Casson was previously suspended from his role as a former Queensland Police Service prosecutor suspended for refusing to get a Covid vaccination.
Mr Katter said Mr Casson had a proven history “of standing up for what is right” and “for the freedom of Australians”.
“This makes him a fantastic fit for the KAP.”
Mr Casson said as well and fighting for the freedom of choice on important matters, he was passionate about fighting for a better deal for North Queenslanders and all Australians.
“There is so much that we can improve on, which will make a tangible difference for individuals, business, and ultimately our country,” he said.
“Taxation, energy, housing, food security, the rights of the family, and the rights to defend your home and feel safe, are all real opportunities for reform, and the KAP are the only ones I can see having a real go a fixing our country – for the better.”
Mr Casson said that when he looked at the news, “I really can’t tell the difference between the major parties.”
“Both support killing our industries chasing a renewable fantasy, both supported forcing Covid-19 jabs on Australians, and both seem all too happy to rely more and more on other countries to support us, rather than investing enabling infrastructure and policy settings to drive supporting ourselves.”
