Townsville’s BM Webb Industrial Property group is adding to its successful Webb Drive Industrial Estate to capitalise on opportunities in the city’s wider property market.

While the interest is nothing new, the group’s sales and property manager, Jeff Turner, said its latest project was the first for some time outside the Mount St John estate.

The group has acquired a 4048sq m industrial property near the intersection of Woolcock and Duckworth streets in Garbutt and is planning a showroom development to suit a client looking for a site with drive-through access in a prime location. For many years it served as a hub for cold storage and transport provider Frigmobile.

Mr Turner said the property came up and the group thought it would be a good opportunity but when it looked at the old cold rooms, it decided it needed a new building to suit a new tenant.

“It has tremendous exposure close to the Duckworth Street roundabout with a massive amount of daily traffic,” Mr Turner said.

“The site would suit a variety of businesses from transport operator to retail tool, accessories and construction suppliers. The opportunity range is endless.

“There is two-street access to the site.”

Initial plans show a 1000sq m showroom, 400sq m workshop, 300sq m storage area, loading docks for trucks, on-site parking and a 150sq m outdoor display area.

Mr Turner said the group intended to develop a new showroom or warehouse down one side of the property and have a drive-through on the other but would establish the built form to suit the end user.

Woolcock Street is the main distribution hub for national and international brands and the property has front and rear drive-through access with road approval for B-double axles.

The property is close to the CBD and port and has good access to major arterial roads, including the Bruce Highway and Townsville Ring Road.

The Webb Drive Industrial Estate, set across almost 300ha in Mount St John, is home to more than 100 businesses, including some of Australia’s largest industrial companies.
