The Top End community will gather on Sunday for the annual Mother’s Day Classic event at Darwin’s East Point Reserve.

The event, organised by the Mother’s Day Classic Foundation, serves as a fundraiser for breast and ovarian cancer research.

Participants of all ages and abilities can take part in either a 5km run or a 5km or 2km walk around East Point Reserve.

Darwin committee chair Jordan Tuit said for her the event was about creating a tradition with her children and being a part of something bigger.

“I wanted to create a Mother’s Day tradition with my boys, not just pancakes in bed,” Ms Tuit said.

“Each year, we help raise money for two incredible causes close to our hearts.”

“It’s an opportunity to remember loved ones impacted by breast and ovarian cancer … Those no longer with us and those currently fighting,” participant Bec Balmer said.

“It’s a great way to start Mother’s Day with the family.”

Ms Balmer’s son Aston said the Mother’s Day Classic “brings people together”.

Alongside the run or walk, the event will feature entertainment, food stalls and activities including a pilates workshop, face painting, Mother’s Day card making, and the NT Music School Choir.

Larnie Batten said the Classic is a “great opportunity” to go for a walk or run with family while supporting an “amazing cause”.

“It’s not too late to register online and help raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer,” she said.
