WASHING powder, peanut butter, newspapers and blankets are among the donations being sought by Tasmanian shelters to help care for stray, injured and abandoned animals this winter.
Good quality clothing donations are also in demand, as Ten Lives Cat Centre prepares to open a new op shop in Hobart’s CBD.
Ten Lives manager Noel Hunt said the op shop, a couple of doors along from Vinnies in Argyle St, was due to open on August 1 and donations were now being accepted.
Mr Hunt said the cat shelter had also put out a call on Facebook for washing powder and clean newspapers, while donations of cleaning supplies, towels, blankets and pet food were also welcome.
RSPCA Tasmania is also in short supply of washing powder, while Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania recently appealed for donations of peanut butter and Vegemite to stuff toy Kongs.
Meanwhile Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is running low on towels, which help ensure the comfort and safety of injured and orphan animals that are assisted by the organisation’s rescue service.
Donations can be dropped at individual animal shelters or put in donation boxes at some supermarkets, while cash donations can be made online.
