ENERGY bills could soon fall for loyal customers as two service providers look to help struggling Tasmanians line their wallets.
RACT has made a new bid to keep Tasmanian energy prices competitive and low for their members.
Chief Member Experience Officer Stacey Pennicott said RACT members switching to emerging provider 1st Energy would enjoy savings through the year.
“We’re hearing from our members that they’re doing it tough,” Ms Pennicott said.
“Everyday expenses such as electricity, fuel, they’re the types of things our members are actually saying they’d like to have financial relief from.”
Ms Pennicott said members would receive a six per cent discount on their yearly electricity bill.
1st Energy executive director Adam Landry said partnering with the trusted RACT brand would help the up and coming provider compete in the state market, which was previously monopolised by Aurora Energy.
He said RACT members spending an average of $2,000 a year on their electricity would now save $120.
“We’re there to try and bring competition which hopefully will drive down pricing and increase service,” he said.
“The fact we’re going through this COVID crisis and winter where bills usage will definitely be going up, if we can help people reduce bills in this period that’s fantastic for them.”
As at June 30 2019 the company recorded 794 residential Tasmanian customers.
Mr Landry said 1st Energy’s entry into the Tasmanian market had been “solid and steady”.
He said he hoped the partnership would build credibility.
“We’re here for the long-haul,” he said.
Ms Pennicott said those who were not already members could sign up to the usually $39 RACT loyalty program for free until August 1.
“We’ve partnered with over 100 businesses to offer savings to our more than 200,000 members,” she said.
“In Tasmania we now only have two [residential energy] providers, but a choice to receive discounted prices ensures that Tasmanians get money in their wallets that they can use for other things around the state.”
