A NATIONAL charity training emergency workers and saving lives has put out an appeal to raise urgent funds — and helping out is as easy as drinking a cuppa.
CareFlight’s aeromedical services have travelled to far-reaching and remote corners of Tasmania but, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the trauma care training workshops and rescue services have not visited the state since December.
Tasmanian Fire Service and SES volunteer Esther Cooper said she was taught invaluable skills at a recent seminar, including managing catastrophic haemorrhaging, handing patients over to paramedics and handling multiple casualties.
She said the CareFlight team were “angels”.
“Their seminars are free for volunteers, so for us to go and not cost us anything but our time is so important,” she said.
“They really deserve all the accolades they can get.”

CareFlight’s $2 million shortfall from cancelled fundraisers has prompted the team to put out a “Mayday” call, launching their #CuppaforCareFlight campaign to raise $150,000.
Ms Cooper said emergency organisations had agreed to donate $5 a day through May for CareFlight’s rural emergency care and training.
National community engagement manager Angela Harrison said it was vital for CareFlight to continue saving lives in disadvantaged regions like remote Tasmania.
“The community needs support and there are gaps around trauma care, particularly in regional centres,” she said.
