A DREAM journey on Australia’s famous Ghan railway is a step closer to reality for a retired Launceston couple who just won $101,462.
The division one winning entry in The Lott’s Super 66 draw was a long time coming for the pair, who wished to remain anonymous.
“We’ve played Super 66 ever since it started. It’s about bloody time! It couldn’t have happened to two nicer people,” the ecstatic husband joked.
“We’ve been retired for a while now, and we worked hard for decades trying to save a penny. “This is just unbelievable.”
The man joked he would have to sit down to prevent a heart attack and said celebrations would involve a “lie-down and a Dispirin”.
“Actually, I’ve got a bottle of scotch here that we got for Christmas that’s got a little bit left in it.
“It’s top-shelf stuff that’s 22 years old. We were saving it for a special occasion, but now we’ve got this.”
The winning wife said a trip on the Ghan was in order.
The lucky ticket was sold by Meadow Mews News in Kings Meadows and Lotto and is the 23rd division one winning Super 66 ticket sold across the company’s two agencies.
Owner Viv Dobley said she was “very excited” to discover her outlet had sold another winner.
“We had only just been telling our customers we were due for a big win and now we’ve got one,” she said.
“We have been celebrating in store all week.
We’ve put up banners and have been telling all of our customers we’ve had a winner. We’ve even had a special morning tea with the staff to celebrate.”
The winning numbers in Super 66 draw 4097 on Saturday were 7, 1, 0, 4, 9 and 6.
