Two victims of Carrick fatal crash named by Tasmania Police

Two of the three men killed in a horror car crash in the state’s North on Wednesday have been identified.

TWO men in their 60s have been named as victims of a horror car crash in the state’s north earlier this week.

With permission from their families, Tasmania Police on Friday confirmed Shane Elliott Williamson, 65, of Newnham, and Rodney Leo Rowe, 63, of Prospect Vale died in the two-car crash on the Bass Highway at Carrick on Wednesday about 5.35am.

The name of the third man killed, a 33-year-old father from Selbourne, has not been released at the request of his family.

The man’s nine-month-old and four-year-old children survived.

Police Commander Brett Smith on Wednesday described the deadly head-on collision as an “absolute tragedy”.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing.

It was initially reported the 33-year-old man was heading towards Launceston when he crossed into the path of a silver Mazda BT50 ute, with Mr Williamson and Mr Rowe inside.
