BARRY Ray Allen appeared briefly in the Magistrates Court in Launceston Monday afternoon charged with multiple offences after allegedly evading police, stealing a vehicle and resisting arrest.

The charges against Allen, 27 of Launceston, include eight counts of stealing, six counts of computer-related fraud, one count of assaulting a police officer and various drug, traffic and other offences.

The offences allegedly occurred across the North and North-West of Tasmania over roughly the past two weeks.

Appearing by video link from the Launceston Reception Prison, Allen said he did not have legal representation, so Magistrate Sharon Cure adjourned the matter until February 28.

Police thanked members of the public who provided information that led to the Allen’s arrest.
