A DRAMATIC escape attempt by a Ravenswood burglar was thwarted by a set of glass doors, a magistrate has heard.

Adam Roy Triffett, 34, was sentenced by Magistrate Simon Brown in Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a large number of dishonesty offences including aggravated burglary and stealing, drug and firearm possession and trespassing.

Prosecutors previously told Magistrate Brown that Triffett was arrested at the Launceston Kmart complex on May 28, 2019.

There was a warrant out for his arrest when he was located by police in Kmart.

They approached him and informed him of the warrant.

He told them his partner was in the store and he wanted to tell her what was happening.

He began to walk down the aisle towards her and she yelled; “go babe, go” and “run”.

He ran out of the store and attempted to jump through a set of glass doors, which cracked but did not shatter.

Triffett took off again into the Coles section of the complex and tried to jump through another set of glass doors, but they too held strong and he fell to the floor.

Police caught up with him and he resisted arrest.

He was released on bail, but continued to offend.

Between June and September he stole $930 worth of meat products from various supermarkets.

On July 25 he stole $760 worth of soft drink from an alleyway behind The Schnitzel Store in Invermay.

In June he stole $1000 worth of puffer jackets from Anaconda on Cimitiere St, $390.75 worth of hoodies from Myer and $210 worth of protein powder from Coles at Racecourse Crescent.

In May 2019 he burgled a Ravenswood house in broad daylight accompanied by two men wearing masks.

They stole $5000 worth of items including binoculars, a money box, women’s clothes, backpacks, jewellery, an orange box and a tablet computer.

Magistrate Stanton said he took into account Triffett's guilty pleas and long-term drug addiction issues.

He sentenced Triffett to 15 weeks and two days (time served) of imprisonment for the aggravated burglary and stealing at the Ravenswood home.

On the remaining charges, he made a drug treatment order including five months imprisonment, which Triffett will not have to serve unless her fails to comply with the conditions of the order.

Triffett will appear in Launceston Supreme Court to face an allegation he stole a firearm from the Ravenswood home at a later date.
