THE hearing of a woman charged over the death of a Ravenswood teen while allegedly driving high on ice on Christmas Day in 2018 may face further delays due to COVID-19 complications.

Elizabeth Anne Quill, 36, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday having previously pleaded not guilty to causing the death of 18-year-old Jayden John Pearce by negligent driving.

Last month, Magistrate Ken Stanton set the matter down for hearing over two days in November.

On Tuesday the court heard a witness expected to give evidence at the hearing was in Victoria under stage four lockdown restrictions and it was unknown if they would have to quarantine in Tasmania for two weeks before attending court.

Ms Quill was also expected to enter pleas on new drug driving charges on Tuesday, but all matters were adjourned for mention and plea to October 9.

Mr Pearce was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital with head and neck injuries after the Christmas Day crash and died four days later.

Police have alleged Ms Quill failed to keep left of the dividing line, failed to keep a proper look out and failed to take all reasonable precautions to avoid a collision before crashing into the green Kia Rio Mr Pearce was travelling in on Pipers River Road at Lower Turners Marsh.

A warrant was issued for Ms Quill’s arrest in May after she failed to appear for her previous hearing date.

Police investigations after the crash were hampered when hoons left burn out marks on the road at the crash site.

Ms Quill’s bail was continued.
