A LEARNER driver has been charged after he was allegedly caught drink driving at Campbell Town with a small child in the car.
Police say the 21-year-old man from Conara had four passengers in the car including the child and was not accompanied by a fully licensed adult.
Inspector Ruth Orr said Police from Northern Road and Public Order Services intercepted him driving the green Holden Commodore on High Street, Campbell Town after it was seen travelling on the Midland Highway.
P-plates were displayed on the car at the time and a breath test of the driver returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.04 – almost the legal limit of a fully licensed driver.
The man was charged with a range of driving offences.

“This incident was especially concerning, as also travelling in the vehicle were four other
passengers – including a small child,” Insp Orr said.
Insp Orr reminded motorists to be safe on Tasmania’s roads.
“Police will be conducting high-visibility patrols throughout the weekend, but we’ll also
be using our unmarked cars and motorcycles.
“Slow down, pay attention, drive to the conditions, rest if you’re tired and don’t get
behind the wheel if you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Remember we could be anywhere, anytime, in any vehicle.”
The young driver will appear in court at a later date.
