BREAK out your best boots for a scootin’ and let out a yeehaw because Tasdance is searching for 100 eager Tasmanians for a mega, Johnny Cash inspired community dance project.
Tasdance and Junction Arts Festival have teamed up to produce Muster – a participatory arts project where a quartet of choreographers will collaborate with the local community.
After 11 weeks of rehearsals, the work will culminate in a large scale dance performance in Prince’s Square in Launceston to a souped-up version of a Cash classic, composed and performed by Emily Sanzaro.
Tasdance Artistic Director Adam Wheeler said there was no better way to dust off the COVID-19 blues than by getting involved in a “Johnny Cash inspired, harp playing, boot-scootin' dance bonanza”.
“We have brought together a powerhouse of choreographic talent alongside Tassie’s own loop peddling harpist sensation, Emily Sanzaro, to muster 100 of you to dance and be part of the biggest performance event to hit our shores this decade,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got two left feet, are a rock star at the nutbush or expecting a contract from me any day now, Muster is for you.”
Junction Arts Festival executive producer Frith Mabin said all were welcome to get involved.
“No matter your age, ability or performance experience, MUSTER is for you. All you need is a love for meeting people and being part of something special,” she said.
About 65 places have been filled so far.
Visit the Tasdance website at tasdance.com.au/muster to register.
The first meeting with the creative team and cast will be this Saturday.
The Junction Arts Festival team will announce upcoming events at the beginning of October.
