A LAUNCESTON woman has been reunited with her much-loved pet after it went missing for 10 days and was found at the other end of the state.
It is believed Maisie the Burmese cat made a miracle journey from Launceston to Hobart under the bonnet of a car after she went looking for a warm place to sleep.
The adventurous kitty was found by a member of the public in Hobart and taken to the North Hobart Veterinary Hospital on Tuesday.
Veterinary surgeon and co-director of the hospital Dr Jennifer Cormack said the cat had a collar and tag and was microchipped.
“We scanned her and looked at her collar and we saw that the address was up north and so we immediately thought someone hasn’t updated the details,” she said.
“We tried the phone number and, no, she lives in Launceston.”
The owner told the clinic Maisie had been missing for about 10 days and she had advertised locally, put up posters and done “everything we would expect of a responsible cat owner”, but had no response.
“The owner hopped straight in the car and drove down to get her.”

The owner told veterinary staff it was not the first time her venturesome pet had taken a joy ride under the bonnet of a car, but the third.
“She gets into the engine bay,” Dr Cormack said.
“To her that is a warm protected area.
“I had a chat with my mechanic this morning and he said ... there are areas within the engine bay that you could, in theory, be warm and protected.”
Although Dr Cormack said she did not recommend any other pets try the stunt as similar incidents with other animals have had tragic endings with all the moving parts and scalding hot metal under the hood.
She said Maisie’s journey was “really unusual”, but not surprising of a Burmese cat.
“Burmese cats are ‘different’, which makes them so endearing”.
Maisie was unharmed and enjoyed a safe ride home to Launceston on the inside of her owners car.
