A GEORGE TOWN support worker who hit her husband over the head with a bottle while in bed has pleaded guilty to common assault in the Launceston Magistrates Court.

Amanda Louise Blake, 41, appeared before Magistrate Simon Brown on March 4. The court heard that on January 13, 2020, Blake and her husband were drinking Victorian Bitter beer long necks together over dinner and into the evening.

The pair were also arguing about their employment conditions with Mr Blake, saying his wife’s employment was affecting his disability pension.

The argument continued as they went to bed and the defendant struck her husband over the head with a glass bottle, causing a large cut above his right eye that bled freely and required stitches.

Police were called and Blake admitted the assault to police, saying she was “sick of his shit” and that her husband had struck her to the face with a backhand before she hit him with the bottle.

The court heard the couple drank three to six VB longnecks each prior to the assault.

Magistrate Brown said Blake’s assault on her husband with a weapon was “serious”.

Blake said a conviction would likely impact her employment and future prospects as a social worker.

Magistrate Brown convicted Blake and sentenced her to a 12-month community corrections order, including 70 hours community service.
