Showcasing their school pride through music, dance and singing, students at The Willows State School have released a new professional music video debuting their new school song.
Teachers and students from all grade levels at the school in Kirwan worked with musician and music video director Josh Arnold, who travels around the country making music videos for primary schools.
The students worked with Mr Arnold to make up lyrics and the tune of the song, as well as actions to go along with it.
The song features the names of the schools houses Thunder, Lightning, Heatwave and Cyclone as well as Townsville landmarks such as The Pinnacles and the Ross River.
Students Alanna Argall and Lily Fryer both had solo parts in the music video, singing and playing instruments and said it was a “very fun” experience.
“We got really creative,” Lily said.
“It was actually really amazing,” Alanna said.
“It only took us three days to make a whole song.”
The students said they were excited their families and friends could see their hard work, with the video receiving hundreds of likes on the schools Facebook page.
“My dad saw how amazing it was and so did my mum,” Alanna said.
“A lot of my teachers were really proud,” Lily said.
Cultural captain Harleim Kennedy was featured in the video doing First Nations dances, while drone shots captured students from Prep to Year 6 playing instruments, dancing, riding bikes and playing sport around the school.
Music teacher Fiona Coleman said it was something the school had been wanting to do for a long time.
“Having the opportunity to have Josh come in and join the school and inspire the kids, talking about what the school is about, where they are from and then putting the words together into a song was great,” Ms Coleman said.
“We have quite a big music program and we have lots of different opportunities for the kids such as sport, technology and learning and general and we wanted to show all that.”
Ms Coleman said the video will serve as a great time capsule for the students to look back on as they grow.
