A Newcomb recruit has made the switch from turf to hard wickets with aplomb, just two runs off being the BPCA’s leading batter so far this summer.

Dylan Irwin joined Newcomb in the Bellarine’s second tier from Manifold Heights in the GCA, and the shift has been a big success so far.

With 294 runs at 98 – with a top score of 163 from four digs – Irwin is only one run off Ocean Grove’s Greg Scarpa.

When it comes to sixes, Barwon Heads’ Lewy Hyland remains at the top with 14 – Irwin has 11 – while Surf Coast’s Sukhbir Chahal has struck 13 more boundaries than his nearest rival, Barrabool’s Cameron Findlay with 39.

With the ball, Jan Juc’s Henry Harris and Inverleigh’s Marcus Warton lead all comers with 14 wickets.

Seagulls bowler leads the pack

A Barwon Heads bowler is top of the pops when it comes to wickets in the BPCA so far this summer.

Luke Schilling took the lead across all of the Bellarine’s seven senior men’s competitions after taking the incredible figures of 5-12 off eight overs as the Seagulls rolled Armstrong Creek’s B1 team for just 129.

Schilling could be in line for a promotion if he maintains his strong form having played all four games in B1 so far, taking 3-29 the previous round against Barrabool.

Meanwhile, with the bat, Surf Coast’s Sukhbir Chahal now shares his place at the top of the batting pile with 241 runs at 120.5 including two tons, despite not playing in Round 4.

Ocean Grove’s Greg Scarpa is sitting on 241 runs at an average of 241 after hitting his third half century in succession with an unbeaten 68 against Barrabool in C1.

Chahal is still miles in front when it comes to boundaries with 48, 14 more than his nearest rival in the Bulls’ Cameron Findlay.

Barwon Heads’ A1 batter Lewy Hyland now leads all batters for sixes with 11 after belting 125 off just 69 rocks against Armstrong Creek on Saturday, including 10 maximums.

Grubbers all-rounder starts season strongly

A new Ocean Grove all-rounder is proving to be one of the finds of the season so far after the Grubbers were relegated to the BPCA’s second tier this summer.

Connor Weidemann leads all comers across the Bellarine’s seven senior men’s competitions with nine wickets at the tidy average of 8.33.

Weidemann, who crossed to the Grubbers from Lubeck Murtoa CC in the Horsham Cricket Association for the 2025-26 A2 season, and played GFNL footy with South Barwon this year, has taken multiple wickets from all of his three games as Ocean Grove has knocked off Portarlington and St Leonards.

Weidemann produced his best haul of the summer so far with 4-24 against the Demons on Saturday as the Grubbers sit in second place on the A2 ladder, while chiming in with 26 runs.

Meanwhile, with the blade, Surf Coast’s Sukhbir Chahal leads the runs aggregate with 241 at 120.5 in B2.

Chahal also leads the BPCA for total boundaries with 48 — 21 more than his nearest rival in Cameron Findlay of Barrabool.

Anglesea’s Sam Weight remains on top of the six-hitting tally with seven, all struck in his maiden innings for the Roos this summer.

Returning Roo on fire with the bat

A Roo has made a strong return to the BPCA according to the latest league numbers.

Anglesea number four Sam Weight, who had played the last three seasons with Iron Cove Balmain Tigers in Sydney, made his way back to Ellimatta Reserve this summer as several players departed (Ollie and Will Huby, Tom Beasley, Michael Thornton)

And Weight has enjoyed a sensational return so far, belting a competition-high seven sixes in his 70-ball innings of 98 against Queenscliff in Round 1 of A1, two more than his nearest rival in Armstrong Creek’s Shaun Trenorden and Anglesea’s Lochie Pretlove.

Meanwhile, Surf Coast’s Sukhbir Chahal leads all competitions in the BPCA for boundaries with 25.

Trenorden leads the aggregate with 147 runs from two digs so far.

With the rock, Surf Coast’s Lachlan Campbell leads all BPCA competitions with eight wickets from just 96 deliveries bowled.
