THE Tassie twins continue to top the House Rules leaderboard and have plans to invest in more real estate thanks to the $20,000 they have so far won on the reality renovation show.
Rhi Harris and her twin sister Kimmy, both from Launceston, have topped the leaderboard for two weeks, picking up $10,000 each week as a result of their impressive renovation and styling prowess.
The money has been a “lovely” bonus for the close-knit 31-year-olds who hope to buy Rhi a house in walking distance to Kimmy's home in Summerhill, just outside the Launceston CBD.
As part of the show, Kimmy’s home will be renovated, while Rhi is yet to buy a home.
However, a large chunk of the prizemoney they’ve won so far has gone to Rhi’s bank account, as a house deposit.
Rhi said she’d been saving for a house deposit prior to appearing on the show, but the prizemoney had been “a nice little injection” to the balance.
She said watching the pre-recorded show each week had been nerve-racking.
“It’s funny because you still get super nervous, even though we obviously know the results,’’ Rhi said.
“Because it’s really hard to take it all in when it’s happening … your brain has almost forgotten how stressful it was.’’
“Our favourite part is getting to see the rooms again, because when you finish them you only have a few fleeting moments before you have to get out.’’
“So it’s great to see the close-up details, and see on TV how it actually looks to other people.’’
Rhi said budgets and negotiations with other teams had been a lot harder than she anticipated.
“It’s a gazillion times harder than I thought it would ever be,’’ she said.
“We knew it would be hard … the manual labour is fine … but it’s the mental side that’s hard as well.’’
The twins have repeatedly scored high praise from the judges for their bold and daring makeovers – including an all-black VIP lounge – particularly impressing notoriously hard-to-please stylist Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
“Because design is subjective, if someone doesn’t like it, there’s nothing you can do,’ Rhi says.
“It doesn’t matter how much you love it and think you’ve smashed it out of the park if the judges don’t like it.’’
“We just try and roll with the punches.’’
