MAJOR SPENDING INITIATIVES
- Nearly $5 billion in infrastructure spending: road, bridges; hospital and school upgrades.
- $112 million towards the Bridgewater bridge replacement, $68 million for the Derwent Entertainment Centre, $68.5 million for the Cradle Mountain cableway.
- $391 million for hospital and ambulance infrastructure upgrades, $222 million for school and TAFE, $100 million for more affordable housing.
- $120 million for upgrades to the government radio network, $46 million for police IT systems, $111 million towards the northern regional prison near Westbury.
STATEWIDE PROJECTS:
- $50 million to meet additional demand in major hospitals.
- $25.3 million for rural paramedics statewide.
- $28 million for six new Child and Family Learning Centres.
- $22 million to extend payroll tax rebates and apprentice grants.
- $21.6 million for a new Human Resources Information System.
- $14 million to support student mental health and wellbeing.
- $14 million to waive school levies for eligible students.
- $13.8 million for irrigation infrastructure upgrades
- $11.5 million for rural hospital and ambulance stations upgrades.
- $11.9 million for extra graduate nurses.
- $10 million to improve sports changing rooms for women.
- $4.3 million for improving airconditioning in government buildings.
- $4 million to TasTAFE IT upgrades.
- $3.4 million for school nurses in colleges.
- $3.2 million or upgraded police housing statewide.
- $1.6 million for the COVID-19 Rapid Response Team.
SOUTH:
- $89.8 million for the Royal Hobart Hospital stage 2 redevelopment.
- $79 million for the new Southern Remand Centre.
- $65 million towards Tasman Bridge upgrades.
- $40 million towards the new Brighton High School.
- $25.3 million for the new K-12 Sorell School.
- $20 million to revitalise Cosgrove high School.
- $19.8 million for 27 new mental health beds.
- $10 million for a new Hobart Youth Foyer.
- $4 million for a new Visitors Centre at the Botanical Gardens.
- $3.7 million to complete the RHH pharmacy redevelopment.
- $3 million for the redevelopment of Taroona high School.
NORTH:
- $111 million towards the new Northern Regional Prison.
- $79.9 million for upgrades to Illawarra Road.
- $79.8 million for Launceston General Hospital upgrades, plus $15.4 million for new beds and staff for ward 4K.
- $41.4 million for Launceston Urban Water Upgrades.
- $33.2 million for the Launceston and Tamar Valley Traffic Vision.
- $24 million for the new Legana Primary School.
- $7 million for Launceston Police Station upgrades.
- $6.3 million for the redevelopment of Ashley Youth Detention Centre.
- $6m for the Campbell Town pedestrian underpass.
- $5.1 million for Launceston Airport upgrades.
- $4.2 million for a new Longford Police Station.
NORTH-WEST:
- $33 million for upgrades at the Mersey Hospital.
- $19.4 million towards the next Iconic Walk.
- $18.9 million for the new K-12 Penguin School.
- $14.4 towards the Burnie Court complex.
- $12 million towards the Burnie to Wynyard coastal pathway.
- $10 million for a new Burnie youth Foyer.
- $8 million towards the West Coast Wilderness Railway.
- $8 million for racing infrastructure.
- $4.2 million for an antenatal clinic at the North West Regional Hospital.
- $9.9 million for the completion of the Devonport high School.
THE BOTTOM LINE in 2020/21.
REVENUE: $6.4 billion.
EXPENDITURE: $7.5 billion.
DEFICIT: $1.1 billion.
GOVERNMENT DEBT: $1.8 billion.
ECONOMIC GROWTH: -0.25 per cent.
UNEMPLOYMENT: 8.5 per cent.
POPULATION GROWTH: 0.5 per cent.
