KIDS put their running, jumping and field sports prowess to the test at a primary inter-school carnival today.

About 520 competitors from more than 50 primary schools battled it out at the Southern Primary Schools Sports Association Champions Carnival 2021 in the hopes of representing southern Tasmania in the state carnival on May 6.

SPSSA executive officer Sarah Bushby said the atmosphere at the Domain Athletics Centre was “beautiful and sunny” for the excited kids and more than 600 spectators.

“It was a very relaxed day, kids absolutely loved it,” she said.

Events included long jump, shot put, vortex and the running events in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m as well as the shuttle relay and circular relay.

Some 18 retired school principals and teachers volunteered as officials.
