FOUR southern Tasmanian councils will aim to address employment issues and workforce gaps with a new $395,000 community grant.
The funds will connect employers and job seekers through employing a workforce development co-ordinator in the South.
The Tasmanian Community Fund has offered grants to the Derwent Valley, Brighton, Central Highlands and Southern Midlands Councils over three years.
Central Highlands mayor Loueen Triffitt said the new co-ordinator would develop apprenticeships with schools and organisations including Skills Tasmania, TasCOSS, local PCYCs, TasTafe and 26TEN.
The TCF’s next COVID-19 specific funding round will open in July. The workforce development co-ordinator will operate from the Southern Central Trade Training Centre at Bridgewater.
