Wild weather has prevented the Pacific Eden cruise ship from docking in Burnie.

Strong winds and heavy rain lashed the North-West city this morning but conditions are now easing.

The cruise ship was expected to arrive at 6.45am but was forced to abandon its stop and sail through to Melbourne.

It had come to Burnie from Kangaroo Island in South Ausralia.

Another ship, the Regatta, was unable to dock in Burnie on February 6 because of strong easterly winds.

Another three cruise ships are due to dock to Burnie between Saturday and Monday.
