RICHMOND’S win over Essendon on Saturday night had an extra special Tasmanian feel to it with Jack Riewoldt again going above and beyond for his fellow-Tasmanian, Ryan Wiggins.
Riewoldt posted to Instagram on Sunday night a touching photo of the Tigers playing group post-game with Wiggins front and centre donning a yellow and black beanie and scarf.
Wiggins, who suffered a devastating C2 facture to his spinal cord in a non-football-related injury, has built a close relationship with Riewoldt following the Tigers star raising $100,000 in last December’s Ride for Ryan – a 284km bike-ride from Devonport to Hobart that Riewoldt championed and took part in.
The 26-year-old was a talented footballer prior to his accident at both Lauderdale and Cygnet and recently returned to the Port during their last home game of the season.
The SFL club put together a working group who have been busy overseeing the construction of a home, which they plan to sell later this year as a house and land package. The proceeds from the Ryan Wiggins #11 project will be donated to Mr Wiggins.
Wiggins had recently spent 11 weeks on the Gold Coast at a rehabilitation centre.
