HOBART is set for more hot days this week, with temperatures above 30 forecast for Friday and Saturday.

The weather will heat up on Thursday with a maximum of 28 degrees forecast, followed by 34 degrees on Friday and 32 degrees on Saturday.

Conditions are set to cool down on Sunday with a maximum of 21 degrees, followed by 24 degrees on Monday and 23 degrees on Tuesday.

The forecast has prompted the Tasmania Fire Service to put fire permits on hold until Sunday in the south and Monday in the north-west.

TFS Chief Officer Dermot Barry said the fire danger rating was forecast to reach High in many areas of Tasmania due to hot temperatures, windy weather and low humidity.

“While we are not declaring a total fire ban, we are asking people to think carefully before lighting campfires and using machinery, and if doing so please be extremely cautious,” Mr Barry said.

“Over the coming days, Tasmania Fire Service and our fire partner agencies, Parks and Wildlife and Sustainable Timber Tasmania, will have firefighters, aircraft and incident management teams on standby and prepared ready to respond to any fires that may start.

“These measures are routine for hot weather and high fire danger periods, but we also ask community members to take responsibility for keeping themselves and their neighbours safe.

“As a preventative measure, any landowner who has recently had a fire on their property is urged to check the fire area immediately to ensure it is properly extinguished ahead of the hot weather.”

“People living in a bushfire prone area are urged to prepare their property, review their Bushfire Plan, and keep up-to-date on changing conditions as the warm weather progresses.
