Peel off makeup: A beauty revolution?

WE RECEIVED more than 800 nominations for Tasmania’s Best Nail Technician, and carefully filed the short-list down to around 50 contenders.

Nail technicians from all over the state were nominated by their friends and overjoyed customers.

Some loved the variety of colours and skills behind applying gels and shellacs. For others, it was the chat while getting their nails done.

Whatever makes your nail technician great, vote for them below to crown Tassie’s Best.

Skindulgence

JESSICA Harris says her regular clients’ do-it-yourself home manicures during isolation didn’t quite go to plan, with customers of all generations glad to be back at her salon.

The Skindulgence founder said being closed for ten weeks certainly gave clients a deeper appreciation for her team’s handiwork.

“Some tried to get home kit gel and lights and sent me pictures of their lumpy home attempts and asked ‘where did I go wrong?’,” she said.

“They said we made it look so easy.”

Ms Harris said she has trained several employees and college students.

She said it sometimes took two to three years for technicians to become “really good”.

Ms Harris said Skindulgence has grown over 11 years into a happy team of seven at the Liverpool St space.

“I don’t have any family myself in Tasmania so it’s nice to have a salon family,” she said.

Ms Harris said visiting the salon was also a family affair for many regular customers.

“You might have three generations in there at one time,” she said.

“Our very first booking when we reopened was a 90-year-old and her 70-year-old daughter.”

She said the nail salon experience was as much about connection as it was about the fancy end result.
