As Covid continues to wreak havoc across the country Tasmanians have become more health consicious than ever.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Mornington’s Van Demon Fitness has seen a steady increase of new members joining the club, even running online workouts at the peak of lockdown.

“People are starting to realise how important their health is,” said owner Heath Barwick.

“While we were closed for in gym sessions we held a big drive-thru at the gym where members filled their boots up with our gear so they could train with us online at home,”

“Covid certainly changed the way we workout and offer our services and the general population is wanting to become healthier and fitter.”

A community of passionate fitness buffs voted the Eastern Shore fitness centre as the state’s best gym in Tasmania in a recent poll by the Mercury.

The unconventional gym is the first and biggest strongman training centre in the state - a workout style that Mr Barwick said sets them apart from other health clubs.

“We are often lifting and pressing logs, pulling sledges - more of the stuff you don’t generally see at regular gyms.”

Van Demon Fitness was born out of Mr Barwick’s love for military-style workouts follwing his discharge from the army almost 10 years ago.
