Hobartians are encouraged to dust off their best and brightest attire and don a touch of yellow for the Cancer Council’s annual fundraising lunch.
Each year, the Unite in Yellow Lunch raises much-needed funds for investment into support services, prevention education and cancer research across Tasmania.
Guest speaker and Motherland founder and 2024 Australian of the Year for Tasmania, Stephanie Trethewey, said the event had an extra special meaning for her this year.
“In July this year, my beautiful mother-in-law, Jennifer Trethewey, lost her battle with cancer and we are heartbroken,” she said.
“I’m honoured to speak at this year’s Unite in Yellow Lunch to support a cause that unfortunately is now very close to my family’s heart.”
Ms Trethewey said attendees were encouraged to wear a touch of yellow to the annual fundraising lunch, which was putting the spotlight on women’s cancers.
“The Cancer Council Tasmania saves lives, and through this event, they can save more,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to using my voice to raise more awareness and much needed funds for an issue that sadly, far too many Tasmanians are affected by.”
Cancer Council Tasmania chief executive Alison Lai said the event was a brilliant networking opportunity and a chance to enjoy a “delicious two course meal with your friends, family or colleagues”.
“The Unite in Yellow Lunch raises much-needed funds for investment into support services, prevention education and cancer research across Tasmania,” Ms Lai said.
“We are extremely proud to have a very special guest speaker.”
The Unite in Yellow Lunch will take place at Crowne Plaza on September 20 at 11.30am until 2.30pm. Tickets are available for purchase online at the Cancer Council Tasmania website.
