One dead after serious all-terrain vehicle crash on Tasmania’s West Coast

UPDATED: An ATV rider has died after a serious crash on the state’s West Coast, with another rider injured in a separate incident in the region.

UPDATE: A MAN has died after a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle and a four-wheel drive on the state’s West Coast.

Emergency services were advised at 2.45pm on Saturday of the crash on the Sandy Cape Track at Temma.

Police said the ATV rider, a 60-year-old man, had crested a rise on the track, before being involved in a collision with a four-wheel drive travelling in the opposite direction.

Despite the efforts of those at the scene and paramedics, the ATV rider died.

Polie said the 27-year-old driver of the four-wheel drive was taken to Smithton District Hospital and, as a precaution, would undergo mandatory alcohol and drug testing.

“The incident is being investigated by Western Crash Investigation Services and a report is being prepared for the coroner,” Tasmania Police said in a statement.

“Police wish to offer their condolences to the deceased’s family at this time.”

EARLIER: TWO riders of all-terrain vehicles were injured in separate crashes on Tasmania’s West Coast on Saturday.

Police said one was in a serious condition after cresting a hill and colliding with a four wheel drive on a four wheel drive trail on the Sandy Cape Track, near Temma.

The crash was reported just before 3pm to emergency services, who remain on scene.

In a separate incident, a 42-year-old man sustained non-life threatening injuries in another ATV crash at Dip Rd, Mawbanna.

It was reported to police just after 3pm.
