AN award-winning restaurant on the outskirts of Hobart has suddenly announced it is closing its doors today.

The current licensee of Twelve Stones in Pontville posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page this morning that it had closed its doors “for good” as of today.

The building sold for $730,000 last week.

The restaurant won multiple Tasmanian Hospitality Association awards in its four years and was a popular wedding and function venue.

It is set in the 1874-built heritage-listed church, which had been deconsecrated and sold by the Uniting Church.

Brighton Councillor and recent controversial Federal election candidate Jessica Whelan and her husband Michael redeveloped the property into the restaurant, which opened in 2015.

The Whelans sold the property in 2017 to interstate buyers for $750,000.
