A CONVOY of more than 40 trucks has travelled from MyState Arena to Richmond and back in honour of a long-serving trucker who passed away.

Leigh Lawson died of a stroke on November 7, his sudden passing was a shock to those who knew him.

“He didn’t have any illness or anything,” Spectran Group general manager Andrew Hazell said.

“On Thursday he had a stroke and on Sunday he passed away.

“He was taken away too young and too quick – he was 56 “

Mr Hazell said Mr Lawson had been with the company for the last 33 years.

“Through that time, he’s been a professional leader to all, young and old,” Mr Hazell said.

“We had so many people showing respect to him, we had 42 trucks.

“I would think he’d be amazed how many people were there yesterday, just showing him how he’s touched them in all different ways.”

Mr Hazell said Mr Lawson was well connected in the community and would often help those around him.

“There was a lady in Richmond and I found out he used to go and sweep her driveway once a week just to help out,” he said.

“He had an impact on a lot of people.”
