A 22-year-old North-West Tasmanian woman has been remembered as a “vivacious, adventurous and spirited young lady” after she passed away, 10 weeks after a serious car crash.
Burnie Mayor Teeny Brumby shared her condolences on social media for Macy Edwards, who police confirmed had died from her injuries in a crash on the Frankford Highway on March 28.
“Our deputy mayor of Wynyard, Celisa Edwards, and her husband Stephen, lost their 22-year-old daughter yesterday, after a 10-week fight for her life in Hobart, following a serious car accident,” Ms Brumby said.
“Our community aches with the Edwards family for their loss, as Macy was a vivacious, adventurous and spirited young lady, who served us coffee in several cafes on the coast.
“She will be deeply missed.
“I just wanted to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Edwards family on behalf of our North West Coast community at this time.”
The community was raising money via a Gofundme fundraiser for the family and also organised a “Magic Miles for Macy” event in April to “show some love and spread magic and hope.”
The 22-year-old was heading home to Wynyard in Tasmania’s north west from a tour guiding training cause in Launceston on March 28 when she was involved in a serious car crash.
She spent weeks in an induced coma in Hobart with a “significant list” of injuries – including brain and heart trauma; broken ribs, pelvis and collarbone, as well as neck and tailbone fractures.
