A TEENAGER killed in a horror crash at the weekend “had a big bright future and will be missed dearly”, her family says.

Fifteen-year-old Brianna Waddington, of West Moonah, died when the car she was travelling in crashed on Baskerville Road at Old Beach early on Saturday morning.

The car, allegedly driven by an unsupervised learner, hit a power pole roof-first, police said.

Speaking on behalf of her family, friend Dale Chopping said Brianna’s life had been cut tragically short, shattering everyone who knew her.

Brianna Waddington has been remembered as a “beautiful kind-hearted young lady”.
Brianna Waddington has been remembered as a “beautiful kind-hearted young lady”.

“Brianna was a beautiful 15-year-old girl with a big bright future and we miss her dearly,” he said.

“She was a very outgoing person and cared so much about others. She was really looking forward to her 16th birthday in a couple of weeks.

“We just want to thank everyone for their lovely support and messages.”

Mr Chopping urged motorists to drive safely in the wake of the fatality, which he said could have been prevented.

“Now a beautiful kind-hearted young lady has lost her life, her amazing family are broken,” he said.

Tributes also poured in for Brianna on social media where a fundraiser has been set up to help her family.

“Brianna was a beautiful girl both physically and in her character. What a terrible loss for everyone who knew her,” friend Heather Lane said.

Another friend Kelly Laws said:

“My heart aches. Sleep peacefully little blue eyed angel.”

Friends also remembered Brianna on her Facebook page.

“I want nothing more than to hear your voice again, see your smile one last time, I don’t want to say goodbye to you, you were so young you had your whole life to live, dreams to accomplish, goals to kick,” Shakiraa Jones said.

A 20-year-old learner driver has been charged with driving while unsupervised over the incident with police examining whether alcohol was a factor.

The other passenger, a 17-year-old male, is in a stable condition following surgery.

On Monday, Assistant Commissioner Glenn Frame urged motorists to drive to winter conditions.

He said the poor conditions on Saturday contributed to the crash.

“We’re really imploring motorists to slow down, drive to the winter conditions, it’s been a terrible period of tragedy on our roads and our sympathy goes out to the families who have been affected,” he said.

Six people have died on the state’s roads in the past fortnight with police saying weather was a factor in several of them.
