EASTERN Shore traffic slowed to a crawl today after a shipping container fell from a truck involved in an accident while coming off the Tasman Bridge.
In a statement issued about 10am today, Tasmania Police said emergency crews were responding to a crash involving a truck and a car in the Hobart-bound lanes of the bridge.
A witness at the scene said the collision happened on the bridge’s off ramp coming into Hobart and the car appeared to have been badly damaged.
Police said the shipping container had fallen off the truck, blocking the road.
A bus passenger heading into Hobart from the Eastern Shore said traffic was banked up for several hundred metres.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area and take another route until the scene was cleared.
No major injuries have been reported at this stage.
The accident site was cleared by midday.
