UPDATED: CONGESTION on several busy streets in central Hobart may take some time to clear after an earlier two-car crash outside the Welcome Stranger Hotel.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the corner of Davey and Harrington streets about 11.20am.

A tow truck was able to clear the major intersection by 12.30pm.

Shortly after the crash, a Tasmania Police spokeswoman said one person remained in a vehicle with possible spinal injuries.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area or anticipate delays.

Meanwhile, there are several road closures in place as thousands of Hobartians — including a strong contingent of school students — rally for action on climate change.

There are several road closures in place, with the rally to finish around 1pm.

They have ventured off from Parliament lawns and are marching around Salamanca and Battery Point before returning to Parliament lawns.

Those rallying are shouting chants including “what do we want, climate change, when do we want it, now” and “2, 4, 6, 8, climate action cannot wait”.

The Hobart rally is one of many being held across the country today.
