Tourism operators taught five COVID actions in new TICT video

A new campaign has been launched to help prepare Tasmania’s tourism sector ahead of borders reopening in 10 days and visitors returning to the island state. WATCH THE VIDEO >>

A VIDEO spruiking five key actions for COVID safety is making the rounds among tourism providers in a new campaign preparing the desperate sector ahead of borders reopening on October 26.

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO Luke Martin said fact sheets and phone calls were all well and good, but the nearly six minute video was providing an engaging and clear way to share COVID safety messages with tourism operators.

He said the video was receiving “amazing” viewership since its launch on Thursday.

“There is an element of anxiety amongst the Tasmanian community about borders reopening and we need to show that we’re committed to doing the right things.”

The video’s five tips from Tassie’s 5 for COVID Safe Travel campaign include updating and implementing COVID-19 Safety Plans, managing physical distancing, contact tracing, COVID Safe cleaning and delivering the “Tasmanian way of service”.

Mr Martin said it was important to deliver the safety information and protocols “in Tasmanian style” with a “big smile on our face”.

“This doesn’t need to be an intimidating thing for operators and doesn’t have to be something visitors don’t feel comfortable with, we just do it the normal Tassie way,” he said.

Small Business, Hospitality and Events Minister Sarah Courtney said the video reminded viewers COVID safety procedures would be “a normal way of life for the foreseeable future.”

The clip features five individuals from various areas in the industry – including a hotel gym, a wildlife park and a mountain bike operator.
