Tinderbox home built by Lane Group Construction takes out HIA-CSR Australian Home of the Year award

An opulent Tassie home described by judges as a “once in a lifetime build” has taken out the top gong for home of the year in the industry’s most coveted awards ceremony. SEE THE PICS

TALK about va-va-voom.

An opulent Tassie home judges have called a “once in a lifetime build” has taken out the top gong on Saturday for Australian Home of the Year at the Housing Industry Association’s (HIA) and CSR’s Housing Awards on Hamilton Island.

It comes off the back of the home cleaning up at the state HIA awards last year, where the project was awarded Home of the Year and won in five other categories.

The cliff--hugging abode – which wouldn’t look out of place in a James Bond film – is nestled among stunning bushland at Tinderbox with pristine views of the River Derwent toward Storm Bay.

The home is the brainchild of architects Studio Ilk and was realised by Hobart-based custom builder Lane Group Construction.

The single-level home – completed in 2021 – features floor-to-ceiling glass windows throughout, flanked by the prominent use of stone pavilions and feature walls.

Burnished caramel concrete floors and spotted gum timber create an architectural break while a cantilevered indoor and outdoor infinity pool, spa and sauna serves as the home’s ultimate luxury showstopper.

Hidden deep within the structure is an extensive wine cellar complete with exposed rock walls.

And yes – there is a full-sized billiards table.

If the top gong wasn’t enough accolade, the home also scooped up the HIA Australian Custom Built Home award and Outdoor Project of the year.

HIA’s Managing Director Graham Wolfe said the home was chosen for its “exceptional workmanship” and “boundary-pushing design and innovation”.
