Delivering specialty coffee to Hobart’s beachside suburbs, Tidal Coffee is the ultimate hidden gem.

Owners Tori and Chris Burnie had been searching for the perfect spot to open their own café for two years when they stumbled across the Seven Mile Beach site.

Six months on, the café has become a central hangout for the local community, bringing together airport staff, exercise groups, and retail staff from businesses out in Cambridge.

“The response has been so much broader than we anticipated,” Ms Burnie said.

“We always knew something would work there because it’s exactly the kind of place Chris and I would want to go.”

The couple was well-acquainted with Hobart’s hospitality scene before finally deciding to take the plunge and start their own business.

“We wanted to do something on our own,” Ms Burnie said.

The café’s menu features some of Hobart’s most acclaimed businesses, including products from Six Russel and Pigeon Whole Bakers.

The specialty coffee comes from Melbourne-based roasters Market Lane, with the filter coffee made with “small batches from local roasters”.

“People are conscious of where their money is going so when they do buy coffee out they want to make sure it’s a good coffee,” Ms Burnie said.

“And I think for a lot of people, they’re just happy something like this has opened their way.”

Ms Burnie said despite fewer beach-goers during winter, the café’s following was continuing to grow.

“It’s getting busier and busier,” she said.

“People respond really well to that owner-operated and community vibe.”
