Hobart has the heaviest drinkers out of all Australian capital cities with three in 10 Tasmanians in the area surpassing alcohol guidelines, new data reveals.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data recently collated by health insurance company iSelect puts greater Hobart at the top of highest percentage of the population exceeding the adult alcohol guideline on 30.5 per cent, followed by greater Perth on 30.2 per cent and greater Brisbane on 28.7 per cent.
The 2020 Australian Adult Alcohol Guideline states that a healthy adult drinks no more than 10 standards drinks a weekend and no more than four standard drinks on any one day.
Tasmania does reclaim some stakes when compared to the whole of the state, with only 28.9 per cent of Tasmanians exceeding the alcohol guidelines and ranking fifth nationally.
The numbers are a part of iSelect’s Health Risk Report, which uses ABS National Health Survey 2022.
The data showed that only 45.4 per cent of Tasmanians met their fruit intake, only 10.3 per cent met their vegetable intake and just 22.9 per cent met physical activity guidelines.
