Fire crews from four stations attempted to quell a house fire last night which saw the dwelling burnt to the ground.
Tasmania Police are today seeking information on the “suspicious” blaze that fire investigators determined was deliberately lit on Trowutta Rd, Edith Creek in the North West.
“Around 7.50pm emergency services responded to the fire which had fully engulfed the house,” police said.
“Tasmania Fire Service extinguished the fire with the house destroyed.”
Damage from the blaze is estimated to be worth around $50,000. Police said nobody was home when the fire broke out.
“Fire Scene Investigators determined the fire was suspicious and are currently undertaking a detailed examination of the scene with Tasmania Police Forensic Services and members of Burnie Criminal Investigation Branch,” Tasmania Police said.

Four fire crews find house ‘fully’ on fire

Fire crews from four stations have arrived at a home to find it fully alight.
The fire broke out at Trowutta Rd, Edith Creek in the state’s North West some time before 8.20pm.
Tasmanian Fire Service personnel from Edith Creek, Smithton, Irishtown and Stanley remain at the scene.
Man dies in three-vehicle crash

A MAN in his 60s from Lenah Valley has died after a three-car crash in Moonah.
The incident occurred on Main Road, just north of Putters Adventure Golf, at 11:50am on Thursday.
Tasmania Police said the man died at the scene of the crash after suffering a suspected medical episode.
“Our thoughts are with the person’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” police said in a statement.
No one else involved in the crash suffered any injuries.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. Police are urging anyone who may have seen the man’s green Toyota HiLux ute before or at the time of the crash to call Glenorchy Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Spirit of Tasmania sailing delayed in wild weather

The weather was so wild on Wednesday night the Spirit of Tasmania ferry bound for Devonport could not leave its berth in Melbourne.
In a rare occurrence, the vessel that was due to sail to Tasmania from Port Melbourne remains docked.
The ferry from Devonport, which arrived in Victoria’s capital this morning, is waiting in Port Phillip Bay because it cannot berth.
Truck blocks Davey St, Hobart

A broken down truck is blocking the two right-hand lanes of Davey St, Hobart, at the intersection of Barrack Street.
A tow truck has been called and it is anticipated that it will be moved shortly.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Update, 9.20am: The breakdown is now clear but traffic delays are expected for some time.
