Chopper crew rescues woman after crash
SUNDAY 7PM:
A WOMAN who was disoriented and stumbling through bushland has been located by search and rescue crews six hours after a car crash.
The 51-year-old became confused after she crashed her car on the Tasman Highway at Runnymede, about 15km north of Sorell.
She wandered into the bush after the single-vehicle crash at 9am on Sunday in a bid to find help.
Concerns over her welfare were raised with Tasmania Police, prompting police and emergency services to conduct a search of the bushland surrounding the town.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was deployed as part of the search, which resulted in the woman being found safe and well at 3pm, about 500m south of the Tasman Highway.
Police said the woman was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for observation.
“Tasmania Police would like to thank the community for their assistance in supporting the safe operation of emergency services including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter,” Police said.
