A local football club and school have paid tribute to a mother and son who died in a crash near Hobart, as it is revealed the mum was also a strong advocate for road safety.

Campania Football Club vice president Jeff Beven said the organisation was “devastated” to hear Teresa and Jim Brown had died in the crash.

“Teresa has worked tirelessly as a volunteer and committee member for the club for many years, in almost every role imaginable,” Mr Beven said.

“From cooking the players teas on a Thursday night and working in the bar, to cleaning the change rooms and even volunteering to help out with strapping on game days, Teresa was always the first to put her hand up for whatever needed to be done.

“Jim was also a familiar face around the club and was a polite and well liked young man, ready to help out where he could just like his mum.

“There has barely been a time since the club reformed in 2007 that the extended Brown family hasn’t been heavily involved with the club and words can’t express how deeply saddened we are to lose two well loved members of our club and all around great people in such tragic circumstances.

“The club extends our deepest condolences to their family.”

Campania District School also mourned the loss of Ms Brown and Jim.

“We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the Brown family at this difficult time,” principal Paul Dalla-Fontana wrote in a letter to parents.

“We have support structures in place to help your child to cope with this news today and for the rest of the week.”

It’s also been revealed Ms Brown was a strong advocate for road safety in a local Facebook group, calling on people to drive safely and show compassion to families involved in crashes.

It’s understood Jim, 16, graduated from Campania District School last year and was a “treasured member of the community”.
