AN 18-YEAR-OLD West Moonah man will face Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow after an attempted robbery of a taxi driver on Sunday night.
Tasmania Police confirmed the man has been charged with attempted robbery following an incident involving a taxi driver in Glenorchy just before 8.30pm on Sunday evening.
The incident took place on Main Road near the Northgate Shopping Centre.
Police allege a group of four males surrounded the taxi before opening the driver’s door and demanding money.
The young man allegedly said he had a knife and attempted to punch the taxi driver before all four fled on foot.
The man was charged with one count of attempted robbery and will face an additional charge in relation to minor property damage during a separate earlier incident earlier that day.
Police confirmed the taxi driver was not injured during the assault and the alleged offender was not carrying a weapon during the robbery despite his threats.
While only one male has been charged at this stage, Tasmania police said all four were located and arrested after the incident.
The man will remain in police custody before he appears in the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
