Vulnerable and at risk children across the state will be a little warmer this winter thanks to Tassie Mums.
Tassie Mums co-founder Clair Harris is celebrating on its 10th birthday after reaching the charity’s goal collecting 1100 children’s coats.
“Since 2015, Tassie Mums has now assisted more than 10,000 Tasmanian children.
“Tasmania came out strong and helped us achieve our goal of raising $10,000 in celebration of our 10th birthday and having supported over 10,000 children across Tasmania in the last 10 years,” Ms Harris said.
The Kingston based charity now has 83 dedicated volunteers and distributes aid to vulnerable and at risk children across Tasmania through social service organisations.
Ms Harris said the organisations request aid from Tassie Mums throughout the year.
“They may be requesting for a 4-year-old boy that has just left an unsafe situation or they might be requesting for a 16-year-old girl who is living in unsuitable home conditions.”
Ms Harris said a warm coat can make a huge difference to a child.
“If they’ve got a warm coat to wear to school, they’re getting to school warm and dry, ready to start their learning journey and participate in their after school sport and be comfortable out in the playground.”
Tassie Mums welcomes donations of clean preloved or new children’s coats, jackets and vests from children’s sizes 2 to 14. Donations can be dropped off at designated collection points across the state, including 17 Coles Supermarket stores.
