A REVISED application for Hobart’s one billion dollar Korean suburb has been approved by the Clarence City Council.
Known as ParanVille, the Rokeby subdivision was originally approved by the Tasmanian Planning Commission on a smaller scale in early 2012.
But the council has approved a revised version submitted by developer MBKIM Group to include an extra 228 residential lots.
Clarence mayor Doug Chipman said it was a substantial investment in the municipality.
“The new development offers increased scope with an increase in the number of residences up to 550,” Ald said.
“Clearly once that gets under way, there’s going to be significant employment and economic opportunities for Clarence.”
The significant changes between the two applications raised some issues for the council to consider but all were addressed to the CCC’s satisfaction, Ald Chipman said.
One of the biggest residential subdivisions developed in the state, the Pass Road project was touted by the former state government as being worth $900 million and with the increase in residential blocks, it is now expected to tip the $1 billion mark.
Designed with Asian homebuyers in mind, the 158ha rural site will become home to more than 2000 residents plus several hundred students at a language school and will generate up to 1000 jobs during the 10-year construction period.
Ald Chipman said MBKIM Group had not yet given the council an indication of when work would start.
The developer could not be contacted yesterday.
