A pair of Tassie teenage twins are taking TikTok by storm, notching up millions of fans of their ‘newsreader’ style pieces to camera around Tasmania.
Ella and Sarah Fitzpatrick, both medical students at the University of Tasmania, have been filming content since they were little, starting out in their bedroom and lip syncing or making video diaries.
But now, the 19-year-olds are becoming viral TikTokers.
In the past few weeks alone, their TikTok account ‘FITZY TWINS’ has exploded, with their recent videos clocking up close to eight million views in total.
Ella and Sarah said they’ve always loved content creating, but really found their groove with the first ‘news’ video they posted.
“We were down at the wharf for the New Year’s Eve 9.30pm fireworks and were playing around with a news voice and thought ‘let’s make a video right now!’,” the twins said.
“Us and (older sister) Hannah thought it was hilarious and we couldn’t stop laughing.
“It also blew up which was pretty cool. Since then we’ve filmed so many more news videos, we love it.”
The teens said they were motivated by creating wholesome and fun content, often filming around Tassie landmarks like Salamanca markets, the Elizabeth Street mall and events like Picnic in the Park.
“The best thing is definitely knowing that we have the potential to change people’s days,” the twins said.
“We make videos where we are just being ourselves, and by doing that, we are hopefully encouraging other people to just let loose a little bit, to smile and to embrace who they are. “TikTok is a powerful app, and we love the fact that as creators, we have the ability to create a safe, warm and accepting space for everyone who comes across our videos during their day. A nice, little happy space.”
The twins recently received uni offers to study medicine, which they say is “super exciting”.
“At the moment we’d love to get into paediatrics, and we have a vision that we could even open our own clinic together one day,” they said.
Until then, they plan on continuing to create TikTok content to give people an insight into their lives and making people laugh.
“We love real and raw content, stuff that’s just relatable and reminds us that we don’t have to look good all of the time,” they said.
“Videos that remind us to love ourselves a little more.”
