AT least 15 Tasmanians are now known to be participating in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Queensland’s Gold Coast next week.

Sport and Recreation Minister Jacquie Petrusma said the contingent of Tasmanians for the 21st Commonwealth Games was the biggest yet.

“I am very proud to support the largest Tasmanian contingent ever for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in their bid to represent their state and country on the Gold Coast,” Ms Petrusma said.

Of the Tasmanian athletes selected into the Australian team for 2018, about 10 will be competing at their first Commonwealth Games although there are also several Olympians among them.

Ms Petrusma said the State Government had contributed $40,000 towards the cost of their participation as well as providing support via the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
